'''Read Codes''' are a thesaurus of clinical terms used by [[GP]] computer systems in several countries including the UK, New Zealand and Australia. 
 
Named after Dr. James Read, a former GP, Read codes have a variety of uses within [[electronic medical record]], GP practice administration, [[clinical audit]] and communicating with other IT systems that use different coding systems.

Read codes are grouped into a number of disease areas (e.g. respiratory, gastrointestinal), which is represented by the first letter of the code (e.g. H for respiratory).
