The butane leaked out from some of the lighters because the O-ring didn't last. It was because of the pressure the liquid butane exerted on them.<br/>
Over time the O-ring gives out and the butane leaks out.<br/>
There was another problem with the striking wheel that made the flint spark. It oxidized over time and because usless in making the flint spark.<br/>

The way I over came these problems is by putting the lighters in a mason jar with a good seal on it.<br/>
I sacrificed one lighter by taping down the lever that allows the butane to come out and place it in the jar and screw it down tightly.<br/>
This solved the pressure problem and caused the O-ring inside the lighter to not be under so much pressure and they last much longer.<br/>

The oxidation is solved because outside air can't get to the striking wheel because it is in a closed enviroment.<br/>

I took silicone and smeared over the jar lid so that water moisture wouldn't cause rust on the jar lid and help secure a tight seal for years to come.<br/>
