Due to several factors a film release can be delayed: 
#Problems during post-production of an artistic nature.
#Political problems regarding the film. 
#Economical problems relating to limitations in the [[film budget]]. 
These problems can be resolved by overcoming artistic problems, making politically correct or commercially successful changes to the film and/or relieving budgetary problems.

In the [[pharmaceutical industry]] a [[pharmaceutical drug]] can be released at a time later than that immediately following its [[drug administration|administration]] due to difficulties in the last phases of the [[drug development]] process.

"Delayed release" is also commonly used in a different sense in the pharmacological industry, to refer to oral medicines that do not immediately disintegrate and release the active ingredient(s) into the body. An example is [[enteric coating|enteric coated]] oral medications, which dissolve in the [[intestine]]s rather than the [[stomach]].
