A textbook of ophthalmology in Ayurveda is written by Dr P K Santhakumari. The Textbook was first published in 2002, and the second edition has been released in 2009. This book brings to light how great is the principles of ophthalmology in Ayurveda. The book also reveals how every disease can be analysed on the basis of the fantastic 'Tridosha Theory'

Introduction
All aspects of ophthalmology including anatomy, physiology, etiology, prognosis, examination methods etc. are described under separate chapters in a simple and easy approachable way under the light of ayurvedic principles. The diseases and treatment principles are described in the light o f practical experience and research trials. Refractive errors, traumatic conditions, symptomatic disorders etc are also brought under tridosha theory. The specific procedures of ophthalmic medications in Ayurvedic ophthalmology are described in detail. [1]
About the Author
Dr P K Santhakumari, is popularly known as teacher among the students and the faculty of ayurvedic community. Her experience of more than 27 years in the department of shalakyathantra[2] and her passion for teaching has resulted in significant contribution in ayurvedic academia in many ways.
Dr P K Santhakumari started her career in 1982 as tutor in Kottakkal Ayurveda college. She completed BAM from Kottakkal Arya vaidya college and PG in Netrachikitsa - MD (Ay) from [[ Govt Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram ]].
At present, she is also serving as the president of National Association of OPhthalmology and ENT specialist in Ayurveda (The Association of Shalaki).
Dr P K Santhakumari is also honoured by the Govt of Kerala with "Atreya Award" - Best doctor in Ayurveda Award[3]. [4]
About the book
The basic principles ophthalmology in Ayurveda has been described under a mature approach. The book is not a simple translation or commentary of the ancient ayurvedic texts. The book contains logical analysis of the theme (Ophthalmology in Ayurveda) in the light of practical experiences and research studies. [5] [6]
Recognitions and awards
A textbook of ophthalmology in Ayurveda has been included in the syllabus of Ayurvedacharya course as reference Book.
