Insulated staples are used by electricians for securing wires; they can be installed with either hammer or staple gun. The insulation is a dielectric, and also a pneumatic buffer to prevent physical damage to the wire's insulation. Specialized staples with shaped insulation are available to fit fragile, large gauge wire, such as coaxial cable.
