Iron rod is a type of wrought iron and is used in building and heavy construction, especially in armed concrete. It is not ornamental.
Iron rod is also a term used in the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Scripturally, holding onto the iron rod refers to holding tightly to the gospel of Jesus Christ to avoid the temptations of the world to stray from the straight and narrow path.
