Read Codes are a thesaurus of clinical terms used by GP computer systems in several countries including the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

Named after Dr. James Read, a former GP, Read codes have a variety of uses within electronic medical record, GP practice administration, clinical audit and communicating with other IT systems that use different coding systems.

Read codes are grouped into a number of disease areas (e.g. respiratory, gastrointestinal), which is represented by the first letter of the code (e.g. H for respiratory).

                       H331. Intrinsic asthma
