What is organic milk?

Organic milk is defined by the USDA as milk from cows that have been exclusively fed organic feed, have not treated with synthetic hormones and are not given certain medications to treat sickness. [1]

Difference vs regular milk

The team of professor Carlo Leifert from the Univesity of Newcastle UK found that organic milk contains higher amounts of vitamin E than in non-organic ones. Organic milk is one choice among many in the dairy case that can help people meet the U.S. government’s recommended three servings a day of milk and milk products.[2]

Why does organic milk last so much longer than regular milk?

Organic milk lasts longer because the producers use a different way to preserve the organic milk. The process that gives the organic milk a longer expiry date because there is a subtance called ultrahigh temperature (UHT) processing, in which milk is heated to 280 degrees Fahrenheit (138 degrees Celsius) for two to four seconds, killing any bacteria in it. Therefore, the expiry date of organic milk is usually longer. [3]
