The Anti-Drug Abuse Acts of 1986 and 1988 were laws passed by the U.S. Congress that escalated the federal war on drugs. Among other things, they changed the system of federal supervised release from a rehabilitative system into a punitive system. The 1986 Act also prohibited controlled substance analogs.[1] The 1988 Act established the creation of a drug-free America as a policy goal and established the Office of National Drug Control Policy.[2]
