Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is an elastic microfibrillopathy first described by Lindberg in 1917.[1] White fibrillogranular material is found in the anterior segment of the eye in patients having this syndrome.[1]

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is considered to be the most common of identifiable causes of glaucoma.[1]

One study performed in Iceland and Sweden has associated pseudoexfoliation syndrome with polymorphisms in gene LOXL1.[1]
