Polycatenane[1] is the polymer consists of mechanically-linked catenane structures. According to the location of the catenane structures in the polymer chain, the polcatenanes can be divided into main-chain polycatenane, side-chain polycatenane. [n]-catenane (n is a large number), which is constructed solely by the mechanically interlocked cyclic components, can be viewed as “optimized ” polycatenane.
