A line or gun drill made by P.O.Ackley. He spun the barrel in barrings and fed the single edged drill in by a hand wheel. This was all pressure fed cutting oil witch was forced to the front of a v shaped rod. And out the end new the cutting edge. The swarf and oil came back threw the v.
Story b
A Gunsmith(retired)I drilled worn out rifle barrels end to end to reline.
I chucked up the barrel and placed a Drill Chuck in the Tailstock with a drill as long as the barrel.
I turned it slowly andadvanced the Drill, moving the barrel out of the chuck as necessary.
{The Drill Bit was almost as long as the chuck to tailstock requiring frequent movement of the barrel.}
It's a common practice.
