Whitlow
Classification and external resources
ICD-9 681.01

A whitlow or felon is an infection of the tip of the finger.[1] The terms are also sometimes misapplied to paronychia, which is an infection of the tissue at the side or base of the nail.

It usually refers to herpetic whitlow. However, it can also refer to "melanotic whitlow".[2] The latter condition bears some resemblance to what is now known as acral lentiginous melanoma.
