Several factors that you may wish to consider in choosing a retreat.

Population Factors

  • If you have decided on a state, get the county road map book of that state

Locate your potential retreat:

Mark it on the map and all of the routes into your location.

Does the retreat have:

  • water
  • energy source
  • farmable land
  • home
  • barns
  • neighbors
  • etc???

List out all of the things that your retreat needs to provide and check them off for each property that you look at.

  • Will you be living on the property or have to drive to it when tshtf??? This

makes a difference... Especially how far you have to drive and through what type of population.. If you live and work in East Dallas, and your retreat is in west Texas, you will probably face many problems getting across DFW in a tshtf situation.

  • Locate the closest community to your retreat, how close is it and what population

does it has? You want the community to be small, but still have a grocery store/service station which most little communities still do.

  • Find and mark all of the cities using colored markers to mark cities less than

1,000 population; cities from 1,000 to 5,000; cities from 5,000 to 10,000; cities from 10,000 to 20,000; and so on and how close they are too your location.

  • Piney Woods: Houston metro area has appx. 6,000,000 population and if only 25%

(1.5 million) make it out of the metro area and only 25% (425,000) make it into the piney woods, how do you stop 425,000 people that will be starving and fighting for their and their families lives... To many cities of populations over 10,000 in proximity to the Piney Woods. Run the populations….

  • Border Land & West Texas: As to land along the border, there are 60,000,000

Mexicans across the border and just how many of these will come flooding into Texas and America???? Water can be a problem in west Texas. We looked at the Davis Mountains and found the land and homes way to expensive to be do what we needed to do.

  • The best defense is to be away from high population centers and the border. We

are in a county in Oklahoma that has a population of less than 20,000, water, trees and natural resources. Such locations can be found.

  • You retreat should be with in 30 miles or so of a city of moderate size (10,000 =/-) with a hospital and doctors. Your

retreat should be at least 100 plus miles from large cities such as Dallas, OKC, Houston, etc... There will be those that have vehicles that will penetrate into all areas regardless of where you are. Persons of semi-condition can hump 10 to 15 miles a day without problems. Persons of good condition can hump 15 to 20 plus miles a day without problems.

  • If you are away from the city in your retreat and everything falls apart quickly, you will have hours for the first motorized wave to hit... There will be sporadic motorized traffic for days. For the foot traffic you will probably have several days for those that have to hump in...

Bugging Out from the City

If you are in the city and you think it is starting to fall apart, make the telephone calls to others in your group, which may be only your spouse, children and other family members and leave then even if you have to break a meeting because you fake being sick...

Have prearranged meeting places.

Remember the county road map book that you bought previously??? Have alternate routes drawn around cities and drive them to get from your city to your retreat… Take at least two vehicles when you bugout, for if you loose one you still have the second one to fall back on. Keep at least ¼ mile between the vehicles as you drive…. When approaching blind curves and hills, slow down and look before proceeding…. If you think something is wrong, turn around and find another route around the potential problem... Remember those alternate routes that you drove...

When you get to your retreat, do not go barraging in for you may have uninvited guests...
