Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 3 cups cornmeal
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening Directions: Sift flour then measure. Add salt, sugar and baking powder to the flour and sift again. Add the cornmeal unsifted. Cut shortening in to the mixture and place in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool dry place. When ready to use: Remove to a mixing bowl:
- 2 cups mix
- 1 unbeaten egg
- 1 cup of milk
Beat well.
Pour in to a greased pan and bake in at 400*F for 20 to 25 minutes.
Makes four 10x12 inch pans of cornbread.
