Apical impulse is the most inferolateral point of visible or palpable pulsation of the chest wall due to movement of the apex of the heart, normally medial and superior to the intersection of the left midclavicular line and the fifth left intercostal space. Generally it corresponds roughly to the position of the apex of the heart and is often the point of maximal impulse.[1]
