Alternative to Canning/pickling salt

You can use finely ground Kosher salt. But a potential issue is the crystal size - with larger crystals you get less salt in the same volume measure. If, however you are weighing the salt the crystal size doesn't matter.

One suggestion is to use noniodized table salt but that is somewhat contrary to recommendation. My experience has been that the added iodine creates more issues than any anti-caking additive.
