Gustavo Tamayo
Gustavo E. Tamayo is a Colombian ophthalmologist known for developing a refractive surgery method known as Contoured Ablation Patterns (CAP), which enables doctors to make surgeries faster and at an easier rate. Tamayo has also developed a procedure to treat presbyopia, which is at the moment being tested by AMO/VISX in order to massively apply this procedure in a global manner. He is currently one of the few doctors that appear in the Colombian second version of Extreme Makeover ("Cambio Extremo: 2")[1]. He is the president and owner of a surgical eye clinic in the north of Bogotá called Bogota Laser Refractive Institute. Besides he is member of 19 international scientific societies, he is author of 8 chapters in refractive surgery books, and has over 100 articles in international magazines. Tamayo is an actual teacher guest on congress of ophthalmology around the globe.[2]. Dr. Tamayo has been designated subdirector of the next Subspecialty Refractive Surgery Day at American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in 2008 to take place in Atlanta. For the same meeting in 2009 he has been appointed as the new Director.[3].
