An Ion Gel is a relatively new material where an ionic conducting liquid is immobilized inside a polymer matrix. This allows the design of unique materials with high ionic conductivity combined with the easy handling properties of the solid state. To create an ion gel, a block copolymer is polymerized along with an ionic liquid so that self-assembled nanostructures where the ions are selectively soluble.
