J-J Hooks Barrier Connection System consists of metal hooks shaped like J's placed on either side of the barrier. The hooks connect barriers to create a protective wall. Most commonly, J-J Hooks barriers are used as a protective measure for highway construction, specifically for the protection of workers and equipment from oncoming traffic.[1]. J-J Hooks barrier is also used for crowd control and security, most notably at the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. J-J Hooks have been used at every presidential inauguration since their creation.[2] They are also typically used at the Fourth of July celebrations at the nation's capitol.[3]
J-J Hooks Barriers are crash tested and NCHRP 350 TL3 Approved. J-J Hooks is the first system available in America with no pins, bolts or loose hardware.
J-J Hooks Barriers were developed by Smith-Midland Corporation in 1990. They were intended to replace the Tongue-and-Groove barrier design also created by Smith-Midland Corporation. Prior to the development of Tongue-and-Groove barriers, DOT crews relied on wooden barricades for safety. Precast Concrete Barriers provided better safety to highway construction workers.
