Blood in the stool is a symptom of many medical conditions - including some that can be serious and even life threatening (such as Colon cancer or, in infants, necrotizing enterocolitis).[1][2] The blood in the stool may either be grossly apparent or, more often, evident only through tests for fecal occult bleeding (such as the stool guaiac test).
