Lu AA21004 is an antidepressant and anxiolytic currently under development by Lundbeck and Takeda for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.[1] It is a so-called "serotonin modulator and stimulator"[2] and acts as a serotonin transporter blocker (Ki = 5.4 nM), 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist (Ki = 15 nM; IA = 80%), and 5-HT3 receptor antagonist (Ki = 4.5 nM).[3] As of 2009, Lu AA21004 is undergoing phase III clinical trials.[1] An NDA is not expected to be submitted to the FDA until at least 2011.[1]
